Natural gas leak results in Route 9 closure
December 18, 2007
A call for a natural gas leak on Route 9 near Crystal Pond Road at 9:32 PM on December 18th resulted in the temporary closure of Route 9 between the Westborough town line and Middle Road.
Firefighters found explosive gas limits upon arrival, thus ordering the road in both directions be shut down.
The gas leak was caused when snow and ice slid off of a building's roof hitting the gas meter and breaking the pipe. Natural gas at high pressure escaped into the air.
NStar gas personnel arrived on scene and shut off the flow of gas. The building was checked for interior gas build-up.
