Southborough Fire Department

Finn School Fire Prevention Program

A message from the Fire Chief:

The Southborough Fire Department is committed to providing a fire-safe environment for the citizens of Southborough.  To meet this goal, the Fire Prevention/Public Education Office has developed several programs in fire safety.  These programs are presented to all age groups within Southborough - from preschoolers to senior citizens.

A special program has been developed for the children in kindergarten and first grade at the Finn School.  The program is based on the nationally-recognized Learn Not To Burn curriculum developed by the National Fire Protection Association.  The segments that we focus on are Match and Lighter Safety, Stop, Drop and Roll, Crawl Low Under Smoke, and  Firefighter as a Friend.  The program teaches young children about a dangerous subject (FIRE) in a non-threatening manner.  It is important to teach the children at a young age the importance of fire safety.

The Program is taught by Captain Joseph Mauro and other members of the Department.  They are assisted by other members of the Department.

I encourage you to take the time to review the information that your child(ren) bring home regarding fire safety.

Should you have any questions regarding the program, please feel free to call Captain Mauro or myself at (508) 485-3235, or via e-mail.

Sincerely,

John D. Mauro, Jr.,

Fire Chief
