Southborough Firefighters assist in Marlborough eight alarm fire
June 26, 2010
Southborough firefighters responded to assist the City of Marlborough with an eight alarm fire at 173 Main Street shortly after noon on June 26th.
Initially, Engine 22 responded to cover Marlborough Headquarters, however, the engine was diverted to the fire.
Engine 22's crew was initially assigned to advance a hose line into the second floor to fight the fire internally; however, the ceiling collapsed and the resulting ball of fire forces all firefighters out of the building. The crew was assigned to, and spent several hours on the roof of the building to the right of the fire building preventing the fire from spreading. One member with Engine 22 was assigned to pump a supply hose line from Grainger Blvd into Northborough's Tower. Rescue 25 was also dispatched to fill self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) cylinders. Chief Mauro was assigned Safety and Accountability Officer.
Two-and-a-half hours into the fire, the four-story building suffered a complete collapse. No one was injured in the collapse.
