Firefighters practice ice rescue techniques

The members of the Southborough Fire Department continually train while on duty to be proficient in all areas of fire, rescue and emergency medical services. Each of the four work shifts are required to conduct training each month. Part of the training for December is ice rescue. With a significant amount of Southborough consisting of water, it is important that if a person falls through the ice, they be rescued in a timely manner. It is important to note that the Sudbury Reservoir and Sudbury River are NOT ever considered safe for ice skating or fishing, and it is illegal to trespass on either body of water or ice.

 On December 31, 2009, members of work Shift 4 conducted ice rescue training following Southborough Fire Department Standard Operating Guidelines. Below are pictures of the training:
