Firefighters practice ice rescue techniques
December 31, 2009
The members of the
Southborough Fire Department continually train while on duty to be proficient in
all areas of fire, rescue and emergency medical services. Each of the four work
shifts are required to conduct training each month. Part of the training for
December is ice rescue. With a significant amount of Southborough consisting of
water, it is important that if a person falls through the ice, they be rescued
in a timely manner. It is important
to note that the Sudbury Reservoir and Sudbury River are NOT ever considered
safe for ice skating or fishing, and it is illegal to trespass on either body of
water or ice.
