Truck crash on Interstate 495 results in one injury and diesel fuel spill

December 17, 2009

Fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to Interstate 495 southbound at the Main Street overpass at 12:52 AM after State Police reported a truck crash with fuel spill.

Arriving personnel found a truck tractor had struck a guardrail in the high-speed lane, rupturing one of two fuel tanks. The other tank had a significant leak. The driver from Woonsocket had minor injuries.

The four on-duty personnel attended to the injured driver and immediately began to contain the fuel spill, which was estimated to be 115 gallons. A recall of off-duty and on call personnel was sounded requesting Car 30 to respond with additional hazardous materials absorbent material.

Ted's of Fayville Towing responded and assisted with the haz-mat containment.

In addition to the Mass State Police, Ted's Towing, and the Fire Department, Mass Department of Transportation and Mass Department of Environmental Protection responded. A private Haz-Mat clean-up company was contracted to clean the site.

Southborough Fire apparatus cleared the incident at 3:24 AM.
