Public Education

The Southborough Fire Department takes a proactive stance in preventing fires through inspections and public education awareness.
Massachusetts General Laws, as well as the Fire Prevention Regulations (527CMR) are used as tools to ensure that the residents, visitors and employees within the Town of Southborough are protected against fire and other hazards. Application for permit forms can be downloaded from this link. You need Acrobat Reader to obtain the document. Permit fees can be found here.
All homes are required to be equipped with working smoke detectors, and an inspection to ensure compliance is required by law upon the sale of any home.
There has been a sharp increase over the last several years of fires caused by candles. For information on the proper use of candles, please click on the following Candle Safety Info link.
Children have a natural curiosity about fire. However, this curiosity can lead to devastating and deadly results. Children should be taught at an early age about the proper use of fire. Please click Children and Fire for further information.
Improperly installed and maintained heating systems can and often do cause fires. Heating Safety should be practiced by everyone.
Public fire education programs are presented to the students of the school system at a young age, as well as to scouts, businesses as well to other organizations. We offer a wide variety of programs and fire station tours.
