We're looking
for volunteers
In the
time of a disaster or large incident the resources of the Town will stretched to
their limits. As such, it may take
an extended period of time to reach every person needing assistance.
To help address these issues the Southborough Emergency Management Agency
(SEMA)
and Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)
have established a local division of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT),
a Federal concept to train and organize eager volunteers for use during a
disaster. The CERT program will
train volunteers in CPR, First-Aid, the Incident Command System, Communications,
Accountability, Organization and their role in the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
It is the focus of the SEMA/LEPC to ensure
the safety of our CERT members at all times and no volunteer will be required to
perform his/her duties in an unsafe environment/atmosphere.
While
volunteers are a great asset, untrained and unorganized volunteers can rapidly
exacerbate a situation ultimately making the situation worse.
As such, the EMD/LEPC requests that any persons wanting to volunteer join
the local CERT program. During times
of disasters, if additional non-CERT volunteers would like to assist, they are
requested to report to Fire Headquarters for instructions. An organized response
is our best chance of rapidly responding to and recovering from a disaster.
