Firefighters respond to car in reservoir
August 28, 2007
Southborough & Marlborough fire, police and EMS personnel responded to a report of a vehicle in the water on Acre Bridge Road at 7:14 PM on August 28th. The report was received from a fisherman.
When emergency personnel arrived, the area where the vehicle was spotted was covered over as the wind blew algae over the vehicle.
Southborough fire personnel launched the row boat. Southborough Firefighter David Wills and Marlborough Captain John McGrath located the roof of a van submerged about one foot below the surface. There were no tire tracks in the grass or fresh damage to indicate that a vehicle recently left the roadway. From what personnel could see, the vehicle had signs of being in the water for quite some time.
Ted's Towing was contacted and responded with a 75 ton crane/tow truck, which was used to remove the vehicle (a van), which had been reported stolen over six months ago. The van was only recently discovered due to a drop in elevation of the reservoir. A small hazardous materials release resulted from the van, and was contained using haz-mat absorbent booms.
