Six car crash on I-495 last of three calls that happened at once
October 5, 2007
At 6:51 PM, Southborough Firefighters along with firefighters from Northborough and Hopkinton responded to a basement fire in a house in Westborough. Off-duty and on-call personnel were called in to cover Southborough's station.
Then, at 7:06 PM, a fire alarm was received from the New England School for Children. As only two firefighters were at the station for this call, an engine was requested from Framingham Fire Department to respond for assistance. The alarm was triggered by dust from construction.
While firefighters were at the New England School for Children call, a 9-1-1 call was received for a six vehicle crash on Interstate 495 northbound, north of Rt. 9. Because a great deal of area resources, including ours were tied up at the fire call, Chief John Mauro immediately requested rescue trucks and ambulances from Ashland and Marlborough to respond. The Framingham engine that responded to the NECC call was requested to cover the Southborough Fire Headquarters.
On arrival on I-495, Chief Mauro found six vehicles involved in the crash, some with major damage; however all occupants made it our of their vehicles. One was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, two refused treatment/transportation, and the rest were not injured.
The following are department pictures of the 495 crash:
