First snow of the new year keeps firefighters busy
1/14/08
The first snow fall of 2008 kept firefighters busy throughout the day. With temperatures not far below freezing, the snow fell as a heavy, wet type that stuck to every surface.
At 7:06 AM, firefighters responded to a car that crashed into a utility pole on Boston Road due to the slippery conditions. The pole was left dangling over the roadway with live 13,800 volt electric lines. The roadway was shut down while the pole was replaced.
The Department responded to several reports of wires down due to the snow:
7:37 AM - Parkerville Road
8:42 AM - Flagg Road
9:18 AM - Southville Road
9:40 AM - Pearl Street
11:59 AM - Southville Road
12:38 PM - Newton Street
3:19 PM - Middle Road
Apparatus also responded to another crash on Fisher Road at 10:23 with no injuries.
At 1:08 PM, firefighters responded to a Cordaville Road house for a large section of a tree that fell upon the roof. Nine branches pierced through the roof into the ceiling of the occupied house. No injuries were reported. The following pictures are courtesy of, and © 2008 Linda Hubley:

Lt. Peltier and FF Pierce use a saw to remove the weight from the roof of the house. The Town's Building and Electrical Inspectors checked the house for any signs of damage.
